Big Changes Ahead. . . . . .

Healthy Kids Pediatrics is transforming your medical home into your medical community!

Starting in July 2014 Dr. Bain will be hosting Group Visits forpreventative visits (well child checks) for ages 12 months and younger as well as chronic medical issues including eczema, allergies and ADHD.

What to Expect

When you arrive for your appointment you will be escorted to a private exam room where your child will receive a quick exam from Dr. Bain and address some specific or very short issues.

You and your child will then meet in the group visit room with other parents and with children the same age or the same medical diagnosis depending on the type of visit. In this casual environment we hope that parent's will
chat and get to know each other.

Dr. Bain will come in and talk on some very specific topics related to your child's age or medical condition. For instance, at the 1 Month Well Child Check one of the topics will be Optimal Nutrition for the Breastfeeding Mom.  At the 6 month Well Child Check one of the topics will be Optimal First Foods for Your Baby.  At the Eczema visit the Topic will be focused on our Healing Program.

Then we can break out and those that need vaccines or will go back to an exam rooms where a nurse will be waiting for you or to check out to schedule lab appointment. .

Benefits of GROUP Appointments

Aside from more time with Dr. Bain some of the other advantages include:

  • Minimal waiting room time - since these appointments will start promptly. Be sure to be here on time so you won't miss anything!
  • Improved and predictable accesses since appointments are held weekly at the same time and can accommodate multiple patients at once.

Will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Set the agenda for what you would like to discuss with Dr. Bain - the questions and concerns you have
  • Schedule more frequent appointments with Dr. Bain if necessary
  • Have more time with Dr. Bain - to have your questions and concerns addressed and to have the doctor listen to you
  • Bring a support person - spouse, family member, or friend
  • Have the help and support of other patients who may be dealing with the same issues
  • Enjoy a more relaxed pace of care
  • Opportunity to participate as much or as little as comfortable.

Sharing Experiences

Many participants find that they learn a great deal from these appointments as parents share experiences and advice during the discussion. All the participants will either be the same age or experience the same chronic medical issue depending on the type of group visit. A blog will be set up for each group so you can share with others in your group outside of office visits.

Maintaining Confidentiality

All participants sign a privacy and confidentiality agreement and the visit is billed as a typical office visit with your usual co-pay. Participation is voluntary so if you prefer traditional individual appointments, you may still schedule them at any time. Shared medical appointments or group visits offer another alternative for your health care - and you will likely find them very educational and enjoyable as well!

Dr. Bain Introduces the Physician Assistant at Healthy Kids Pediatrics: Amy Speer

I wantedDr . Bain to take this opportunity to share with you a little about our Physician Assistant, Amy Speer.  She has been a welcome addition to the Healthy Kids Pediatrics team. Her skills, training and expertise are a natural complement to what I desire to accomplish through Functional Medicine while allowing us to extend more personalized care to all our patients.

Amy graduated with a Bachelor of Science in PA Studies from UTMB Galveston, is NCCPA certified and is currently studying for her Boards in Functional Medicine. Working in many medical environments including Family Practice, has given Amy the opportunity to work with a large variety of patients.

Amy shares that prior to her joining the staff at Healthy Kids Pediatrics her two children were patients of Dr. Bain's. She felt led to join Healthy Kids Pediatrics after I found the root of her son's underlying health concerns, made some changes to his treatment plan which made such improvement in her son's medical coAmy -speerncerns. Always, the learner, she recognized that joining the staff would also complement what she was already learning through her Functional Medical courses and allow her to put that knowledge to good work assisting our patients to achieve wellness and good health. We found that our philosophies were very much the same and the rest is history.

Amy enjoys working out, cooking, crafting, reading and learning about all of the interesting things that come up over the course of the day like essential oils, homeopathy, etc.
